We were contacted by a wonderful lady who had had a fall, and been in hospital for a while to recover. While in hospital she was able to tell her nurses that her home had become very messy and she needed some help to put it right before she returned home. The hospital arranged for her to stay in a home while she arranged for the necessary works to be done. The customer wasn't able to take or send us pictures so we sent her our pricing and she booked us for 1 day. The team met her at the property and as we struggled to gain entry into the house, we started to understand.

This customer had been struggling to let go of items for quite some time and unfortunately the property was now verminous as well due to large quantities of rotten food in the property which had attracted mice and rats, who had taken over the property. This was the first time our customer had let anyone visit her house in many years and she found it very overwhelming. Once reassured we were not there to judge her, just to help, she was able to have a giggle with the team as they shimmied into the property to do their assessment. Once we were able to advise our customer roughly what the job would entail and the associated costs, she identified specific items of furniture and personal items such as books, paperwork and other life items she wished to keep and decided not to return to the property until we completed the job, knowing we would keep in touch with her as the clearance progressed.

First we tackled the removal and disposal of all litter, putting aside all paperwork and books as requested. Our team went through every room, wardrobe, cupboard, sideboard, nook and cranny to ensure all litter and verminous contents had been removed from our customer's home.

As the team emptied the property, it became apparent the house needed some work done so the customer decided not to have a clean as she would be getting builders and other contractors in. She couldn't believe we had managed to clear her home of all the years of litter and was now able to go through her personal belongings with the help of her friends to get everything organised into a storage unit so the property was empty and ready for the structural works to start!

We were asked to clear a 2 bedroom terraced property in Handsworth, Birmingham by our client who was clearing out her mother's property, she told us her mother was 86 years old and had been suffering with alzheimer's for over a year, she herself had been travelling every day to help her mother but it was becoming too much as she did not live in the area, she had made the decision that it was safer for her mother to move into a residential home closer to her home in central Birmingham. Our client had been at the property for two days before we arrived and had cleared everything that she wanted to keep or take to the care home for her mother, there was a lot of crockery and ornaments in cupboards and shelves so we started by packing up anything that we could take to charity first and putting to one side along with some furniture which could be taken to charity, we loaded our van with all the items which were not suitable to take to charity and disposed of that first. The clearance was wrapped up in under three hours. Once we packed all of the ornaments, crockery and brick a brac and cleared inside the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes the clearance did not take too long, we packed the van with all the rubbish and junk first and set off to the local recycling station when we returned to the property we loaded all the furniture and bric-a-brac and set off to the nearest charity shop in Handsworth to deliver the goods to. Our Client was very pleased at how quickly our team worked, we also helped to load her car with paperwork which she wanted to check before disposing.

Vehicles and recycling. Recycling and waste facilities are more spread out here than somewhere like London — but there's a silver lining: centres across the region happily accept Luton vans, and allow the time to unload them. We can usually complete two loads in a day on a standard clearance; it can take a little longer where the team has to travel further for the right facilities, which occasionally affects whether a third load fits the same day. Your individual estimate sets out how many loads — and days, if more than one is needed — your clearance will take.
