Job Description: Whilst you may have spent your bank holiday Monday relaxing and unwinding from a busy week at work, the Abacus team were undertaking a house clearance in Salisbury. We were called by a council tenant who required a clearance for her two bedroom terraced house in Salisbury, that was full of mess and food waste.

The tenant lived with her two children aged 7 and 9, and had been living in squalor for weeks. When the councils gas engineers came to inspect the gas meter and boiler, they reported the conditions to the housing officer, who demanded that the house was cleaned and revived to its original condition.

The agreement was made, and failure to comply with this could lead to prosecution or eviction. In need of a house clearance in Salisbury, the tenant had hired chose Abacus as the registered waste carrier for her rented house.

When discussing the clearance with the customer, she wished for the majority of the belongings in the house to be cleared, and that she would keep the items that she wanted to remain in the house.

Disposal of Contents: When we arrived at the house, it was cluttered with rubbish, waste and even hoarded possessions. The large majority of the house was full of objects and belongings of the tenant, where most of these items had to be cleared.

Firstly, we bagged all food waste and rubbish that was left lying around the house, and threw them onto the van. The remaining items in the house that were smaller were also bagged, but separately to the waste. We then took the larger items and furniture that was unwanted, and moved them onto the van.

We then drove the van to the nearest recycling centre, and disposed of the belongings. The customer was very satisfied with the clearance, as it meant she met the agreement with the council. It also made the house cleaner and tidier, with basic essential items and only a few other items in the house, that made it more livable and homely.
