Stoke Row, Oxfordshire bins overflow after six weeks without collection

THE BINS are overflowing in Stoke Row in Oxfordshire – residents’ black wheelie bins have not been emptied for six weeks.

It’s due to the Christmas holiday and the severe weather. But only last week, South Oxfordshire District Council told residents to expect delays. It said that its crews were trying to catch up with all the missed collections.

The villagers’ green recycling bins were emptied on 13 and 20 January.
They have criticised the council’s contractor Verdant for not alternating collections – emptying the black bins with non-recyclable waste one week and the green bins on the other.

Brian Foley (46), of School Lane, said: “It’s bit of a nightmare. My wheelie bin’s overflowing. I have an additional black bag which is also full and more to go out now as well. 




“I know the council was going to have problems due to the snow, and I appreciate that, but they should realise that everybody has a backlog of both types of rubbish. 



“If they took green waste one week, it should have been black bins the next. When you drive around the village, you can see black bins and bags everywhere. There’s nowhere else for them to go. 



“It seems like a total lack of organisation by the council. Common sense doesn’t seem to apply.” 



The council said that collections in South Oxfordshire – including the emptying of brown bin (with garden waste, etc) – had returned to normal this week.
