London brothers dumped three tons of rubbish

TWO London brothers who dumped three tons of rubbish – although they had been paid to dispose of it properly – now face jail. 



Householders paid them to remove a variety of rubbish including furniture and electrical appliances, but they dumped it in streets in the Enfield and Haringey areas of north London.

Peter (40), Rivulet Road, Tottenham, and James O’Donoghue (33), Wren Close, Edmonton, at first pleaded not guilty, but they admitted the offences when they appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday.

An extensive investigation by Enfield Council’s environmental crime team was carried out after a tip-off.

A judge described the two brothers as the “scourge of the capital”. He will decide their sentence at a later date. 



Councillor Terry Neville, cabinet member for the environment, said: “Fly-tippers are a scourge of urban life. Their selfish and greedy actions inflict huge damage on our 
environment and residents’ quality of life. 



“It costs ratepayers about £300,000 per 
year to investigate, clear and dispose of 
illegal waste.”
