Swansea skip boss charged in £80k fly-tipping case

    28 January 2010

A SWANSEA skip hire operator is charged with receiving more than £80,000 for nearly two years of fly-tipping.

Neil Burder (47), of Pentre Road, Grovesend, is accused of 17 counts of dumping waste illegally between January 2007 and December 2009.

He is also charged with receiving £80,951.69 for illegally dumping waste, and removing waste that had been dumped illegally.

Burder, who runs skip hire firm Andy Skips and Penybedd Lands, is also accused of operating waste-management facilities without environmental permits, and of treating controlled waste without a licence.

He and two other men were set to plead at Cardiff Crown Court. However, the plea and case management hearing was adjourned to 11 February.

Evan John Jones (55), of Llandeilo Road, Llanelli, was charged with 12 counts of fly-tipping and paying Burder £79,538.67 to carry out illegal dumping.

Toby Parker (39), of Waun Cae Philip, Pembrey, was charged with knowingly causing building waste to be illegally dumped.

Rebecca Parker (33), of Waun Rhodyn Man, Pembrey, was discharged after the prosecution offered no evidence against her. In Swansea Magistrates Court last month, she denied a charge of allowing building waste to be dumped at Cae Delyn, Pinged Road, Pembrey.

Tom Crowther, prosecuting the case, said there were 66 charges on the indictment.

Jones and Toby Parker have previously pleaded not guilty to the offences. Burder has not yet entered a plea.
