Suffolk to boost recycling sites and ‘Green County’ reputation
25 January 2010
SUFFOLK County Council plans to greatly improve three household waste recycling centres in the area.
The aim is to increase the range of items collected and to make the centres easier for residents to use.
The council proposes to work with the Waste Recycling Group – which is based in Northampton and operates the sites on its behalf – in order to redevelop the Felixstowe, Hadleigh and Mildenhall sites.
Under the proposals, they would provide new containers for glass and paper recycling and also offer furniture reuse areas.
The council also plans to improve the layout of the sites to enable a better flow of traffic and shorten the amount of time that customers need to spend on the site as they deposit items for recycling.
Suffolk County Council's portfolio holder for waste, Councillor Lisa Chambers, said: "I am particularly pleased to see partnership working with the voluntary sector in action at the HWRCs [household waste recycling centres] to reuse furniture.
“With these opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle more of our waste, we are helping to work towards our ambition to make Suffolk the Greenest County."
