Nottingham woman’s midnight bath disposal costs her £1,300

A NOTTINGHAM woman was filmed on CCTY helping to dump a bath full of building waste at a recycling point.

She will have to pay over £1,300 as a result.

Jo-Ann Haughton (39), of Beckhampton Road, Bestwood Park, helped three other people to carry the bath and dump it at the Beckhampton Road recycling point.

The camera caught them doing their dirty work just before midnight on 16 April 2009. A vehicle parked nearby was registered to Haughton.

After investigations by Nottingham City Council, Haughton admitted dumping the waste. She refused to reveal the identity of the other people in the group.

At Nottingham Magistrates Court, she was fined £400 for the fly-tipping offence, £300 removal costs, and £612 investigation and legal costs. She was also ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

Councillor Katrina Bull, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and climate change, said: "We work hard in Nottingham to clamp down on fly-tipping and have a team of dedicated officers who work hard to keep the city free of waste.

“Unfortunately a minority still continue to fly-tip and the public needs to be aware that they have a duty of care under the Environmental Protection Act to prevent the escape of their waste and not to allow unlicensed waste carriers to remove it."
