New Cheshire plant to carry out specialist metal recycling
17 March 2010
A NEW £3.2 million treatment plant in Cheshire is being built to meet rising demand for the services of specialist waste recycler Edelchemie.
The company provides recycling solutions for recovering metals, ammonia and other constituents of industrial residues and by-products.
Tougher environmental regulations and higher disposal rates and commodity prices have increased the demand for its services.
Edelchemie managing director Leo Neveles said: “We have outgrown the Market Harborough site where we have been for 14 years and we are unable to expand any further. As we don’t wish to work from multiple sites, we have moved to a much bigger space in Cheshire.”
The new plant is currently being built on a site that is 25 times bigger than the Market Harborough one. It will be able to process 15,000 tonnes of material annually.
Over the next two years, the company will be installing at the site hydro-metallurgical treatments, metal smelting and electrolytic refining – so as to produce cobalt, copper, molybdenum, nickel and tin.
There are currently reported to be two potential buyers of the Market Harborough facility.
