West Midlands to get new recycling plant at Minworth

THE waste-management company Biffa is to build a new recycling plant in the West Midlands.

The company announced yesterday that the facility would be fully operational by September 2010.

It is to be located at the new Midpoint Distribution Centre, Water Orton Lane, Minworth, near Birmingham.

The recycling plant is designed to process 200,000 tonnes of waste yearly. Its recycling rate will be more than 96%.

Biffa engineering director Dr John Casey said the project would create up to 40 jobs, thus helping the West Midlands economy.

It was important, he added, to recognise that the jobs being created were new green jobs that would help both the environment and regional businesses “by giving them the opportunity to recycle more, and in doing so, reduce the cost of sending their waste to landfill”.

Biffa said that it planned to develop more recycling and treatment facilities in the Midlands and around the UK.
