Bromley tests new commuter recycling scheme at station
3 March 2010
A BROMLEY train station has been selected to test a new recycling scheme aiming at encouraging commuters to recycle cans and plastic bottles.
Three recycling units have been located at Bromley South Station and Bromley Council will be responsible for emptying and recycling the waste collected.
Southeastern is partnering with the station for the scheme, which began yesterday.
Commuters at the station will now be able to separate their paper, plastic, and metal-can waste.
Bromley Council said it hoped to recycle at least 10 tonnes of waste each year.
London Waste and Recycling Board chairman James Cleverly, who is also an assembly member for Bromley and Bexley, said Bromley was at the top of the London list for household and business recycling.
The scheme has been set up through a partnership between the council, Metro Newspapers and Recycle Zone.
