Wolverhampton firm proves that recycling pays

AN industrial waste-management company in the Black Country is showing that being ‘green’ makes excellent business sense.

Recycled UK, which is based in Coseley, Wolverhampton, has expanded rapidly over the past year and projects a turnover of £1 million by the end of 2010.

In September 2009, it moved to new premises that were more than double the size of its previous home.

It has also employed an additional six people to cope with the increase in waste recycling by businesses.

Recycled UK offers clients in the manufacturing, packaging and automotive industries a complete plastics waste-management service. It also deals with a range of materials, from collecting them to re-selling them for manufacture.

Founder and director, Paul Green said: “It’s a win/win situation – businesses make money from selling their waste to us for recycling and we provide them with all the paperwork needed to tick the environmental boxes for governing authorities.”

He said the company’s success had not been all plain sailing.
“The price of plastic fluctuates a lot and at the end of 2008-early 2009, the market collapsed. We had two options: either sink with the market or diversify our customer base.”

While continuing to process waste from its existing clients, Recycled UK linked up with local authorities to help recycle waste plastic from damaged bins, cones and road bollards. It also teamed up with high street retailers.
