Bromsgrove’s ‘fantastic’ new recycling plant opened
17 March 2010
A TECHNOLOGICALLY advanced recycling plant has been officially opened in Norton near Worcester.
Large quantities of extra waste from Bromsgrove will now be diverted from landfill. The plant can deal with up to 105,000 tonnes of waste yearly.
The “fantastic” new facility – which stretches over almost six acres – has more than a mile of conveyor belts and 12 miles of cable. It also has 145 electric motors.
The waste that it can process includes steel and aluminium cans, paper, cardboard, drink cartons, glass bottles and mixed plastic containers.
It has been unveiled in advance of April 6 when Bromsgrove starts operating a new co-mingling scheme, in which all recyclable items will be collected from green bins.
Representatives from Worcestershire County Council and Severn Waste Services attended the official opening yesterday.
Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for waste and sustainability, Cllr Anthony Blagg, said: "This fantastic new facility will make a big difference when it comes to recycling for Bromsgrove residents, as well as for people across Worcestershire.”
