Derbyshire council launches new recycling drive
10 March 2010
DERBYSHIRE County Council has launched a new campaign to encourage people to recycle more.
The campaign, called We’re Not Wasters, calls on residents to reduce, reuse and recycle.
The council is also asking residents to submit their top reuse tips to the council. The best tips will be rewarded with a £10 shopping voucher.
As well, the council is to provide more recycling facilities around the county and to offer householders more options in recycling.
Derbyshire’s recycling rate is currently 41%. However, the council believes it needs to do “much more” to raise the rate further.
Cabinet member for technology and recycling, John Allsop, said the campaign was aimed to persuading people to reduce the amount of rubbish they produced “by recycling and reusing more and wasting less”.
He said the council planned to build a new waste-treatment centre in the county.
