South Ayrshire leads the way in recyling

SOUTH Ayrshire is leading the way when it comes to recycling.

Figures announced by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency show that residents in South Ayrshire are way above average in their level of recycling.

Councillor Peter Convery said it was exciting that the citizens of Scotland appear to be so committed to reducing waste by recycling.

The Scottish government has built up an international reputation for its recycling efforts. It plans to reduce unused waste by recycling up to 40pc in 2010.

John Scott MSP said that between July and September 2009 South Ayrshire residents were recycling 47.3pc of waste. The UK average is 39pc.

Scotland would eventually have a zero-waste policy, under which all waste would be reused, reduced or recovered to make other products, he added.
