Newham recycling plant achieves 99pc recovery of plastic

AN EAST LONDON recycling plant can pride itself on 99pc recovery of plastics, according to a new case study.

The study, titled 'East London recycling plant takes on all-comers', highlights the recycling and waste-management role of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), owned by Bywaters.

The plant is London's largest undercover MRF and the study was carried out by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) which works with local authorities, business and householders to prevent waste, raise the rate of recycling and develop markets for recycled and sustainable products.



London Mayor Boris Johnson officially opened the £7 million plant, located at Twelvetrees Crescent, Bow, on 5th June 2008. It was designed to deal with a wide range of recyclables and collection systems, both municipal and commercial.



The WRAP case study highlights the fact that one piece of equipment at the facility can achieve almost total recovery of plastics.
