Hammersmith and Fulham rubbish ended up in Watford

A HAMMERSMITH and Fulham business was the source of construction rubbish found in Watford.

However, the attempt to dump the rubbish failed – and the van used to transport it was seized by police and council officials and crushed.

After reports by residents on 26th August that three people were off-loading rubbish from an LDV tipper truck, police sped to Vicarage Road in Watford. As they arrived, the trio abandoned the vehicle – which was still loaded with rubbish – and it was seized and impounded.

Police and Watford Borough Council officers then discovered that the same truck had been used a week earlier to dump waste in a carpark in Acton.

The truck owners have not been found but the Watford rubbish was traced to a business in Hammersmith and Fulham. It could face prosecution under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

After the rubbish was removed and recycled, the truck was crushed.

Councillor Derek Scudder, portfolio holder for the environment at Watford Borough Council, said: “This is an excellent result for the council and police and shows partnership working at its best.

“We are grateful to the resident who reported this incident and ask that everyone continues to be vigilant against this kind of environmental crime.”
