Mansfield Woodhouse couple fined after letters found in dumped rubbish

PERSONAL letters found in rubbish fly-tipped at a Notts beauty spot led to a former couple being fined.

Rebecca Gibson (24), of Byron Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, and Scott McHugh (25), of Greenwood Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, were living together when the rubbish was found in November 2008.

They were traced from personal letters discovered in household rubbish left at Common Lane, on the Meden Trail in Pleasley Vale.

Each claimed the other was responsible for the dumping. Magistrates in Mansfield, however, concluded both had failed to take measures to ensure that the waste was disposed of legally.

Each was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £250 towards the legal costs of the district council.
