Recycling Articles : What You Can Do To Reduce Your Waste

    Back To Recycling Articles Index

There are many ways that you can help to reduce the amount or rubbish that is on the increase in all households every year and every single home needs to play their part in recycling if we are not to run out of room in the landfills.

Prevention is sometimes better than the cure and when it comes to cutting down on the amount of rubbish we have then not making as much rubbish in the first place is definitely the way to go.

Again there are many ways in which you can prevent rubbish, wherever possible buy your products in bulk. By buying this way you will cut down on the amount of packaging for the products and as such less waste.

Make sure that you turn all your kitchen and garden waste into compost instead of throwing it into the regular bin. Where possible buy products that are reusable or rechargeable or that are energy savers, for example energy saving light bulbs last longer and so cut down on the times you have to change them. Don’t buy disposable nappies just because they make life a little easier, or paper plates, cups etc.

Instead of just dumping your old clothing when you buy new give your old ones to charities, the majority of charities will come and collect them or watch out for the plastic bags which are sent out through your letterbox on a regular basis asking for donations.

When you go shopping don’t buy new carrier bags on every trip, the majority of big supermarkets now offer reusable bags for just a few pence and these can be used time and time again. some are even offering incentives to reuse carrier bags by giving you added club card points for every bag your bring and reuse.

Recycling is a must and it is the interests of everyone to get into the habit. If you don’t then local councils have been given the go-ahead to start fining households for not taking notice of the recycling rules.

Almost every local borough has now gone onto the fortnightly bin collection and this is not just because the bin men are too lazy to come around every week. The majority of households have now got two bins, one for regular rubbish and one for compost matter which can be broken down much more easily.

Along with this many have seen the introduction of the bags for the newspaper and such and a tub for the collection of bottles, cans and glass. When compared to some of the countries around the world we have one of the worst reputations when it comes to recycling or the lack of it. There are only three other countries in the EU which are behind us.
