Recycling Articles : Why Is Rubbish A Problem?

    Back To Recycling Articles Index

Very few people stop and give it a thought that what we are throwing away could be a problem. Why should we, after all we don’t want it, we throw it in the wheelie bin, it is taken away, why then should this be a problem for anyone?

When you look at the bigger picture you can see why rubbish matters, we in the UK are producing more waste then ever before, we throw rubbish away at work, we throw it away at home and these are some of the reasons why it should matter when the whole picture is looked at.

When we throw something away we don’t give any thought to the resources that have been used when it comes to producing it and the time that has been put into it. Not only this but for every single item that we could recycle but instead throw away among the normal rubbish we are adding to the enormous strain that is being put on the environment.

The strain on the environment is down to the fact that we are adding to the problem of having others to extract from the rubbish to remanufacture and redistribute. What we throw away in the rubbish we don’t think of being of use to others, one clear example of this would be scrap metal.

Scrap metal has been continually recycled for many years and if we stopped to look there are many other items which we regularly throw away that we could use or others could use which makes much more economical and environmental sense.

In short currently we are using the earth’s resources to make resources which we then throw away; it is only common sense that this cannot go on indefinitely. What we need to realise is that waste should be seen as a resource and not rubbish and how we or others can make use of them.

Therefore we need to change our way of thinking and to stop producing as much waste, the only step to this is to not produce waste in the first place and break bad habits of the past. This isn’t as hard as it might seem, local councils are helping households to make the change with the introduction of blue bins for bottles, bags for our waste paper and green bins for all the compost material.

While this is seen by many as been nothing but trouble it is needed and is something which we should all get used to doing as without a doubt changes need to be made for the future.
