Recycling Articles : Recycling BooksBack To Recycling Articles Index The book is perhaps the ultimate recyclable material, being almost timelessly reusable and sharable until eventually, slowly disintegrating and being recycled to create more books! Often, during house clearance, Abacus find that books are no longer wanted and so we recycle by giving them away. Many charities such as Oxfam and Save the Children supply metal book banks in easily accessible places as well as other charities performing doorstep collections in black bags. Others arrange to collect them on a one-off basis. These will then be sold for profit by a Charity Shop and the funds generated as a result will be used for the cause that that particular charity represents. Libraries often appreciate donations of rarer books or books on a particularly specific theme. Schools and Colleges also appreciate them, particularly if they are relevant to subjects taught in the school or the national curriculum. Of course, finally, if we believe the book to be an antique or otherwise valuable then we give it to you and you will have the option of selling it for the profit. Most relatively large towns will have a second-hand bookshop who may purchase antiquarian books but otherwise, the internet is a great place to sell or auction. Its always good to value your book before auctioning it off at eBay or via off-line auctions so that youll know where to set a Reserve or starting price - if you cannot afford a professional valuation check out the price that internet booksellers are offering for the same or similar books.
