Recycling Articles : Quick recycling tips

    Back To Recycling Articles Index

A staggering 30.5 million tonnes of waste is produced each year by UK households, however only 17% of all rubbish gets recycled. Here are some quick and easy recycling tips to help you:

    Reduce your rubbish

We live in a throw-away society and the chances are that you will have bought something this past week that you won’t use again. This type of waste is what contributes most to the volume of rubbish we produce and we all need to make a collective effort to curb our ways regarding the use of products we buy and never use again. Only buy things you truly need. If you’re having a clear-out of old junk, ask yourself: Can I reuse it? If the answer is no, ask yourself: Can someone else reuse it?
    Reuse your products

Don’t throw away anything you can continue to use, such as carry bags, old cartons and other reusable items.
Give away or sell your products

Try selling products you no longer need or have a use for, donate them to charity shops or pass them onto friends and family members.
    Repair your products

Instead of throwing away a damaged or broken product try and repair it or get it fixed. Things like TVs can be fixed and will prove cheaper than the cost to replace it.
    Cut down on packaging

Quite a lot of waste stems from packaging. Try to cut down your packaging waste. When buying fruit and veg for example, buy it loosely.
    Recycle more

Recycle things yourself, such as bottles, glass and WEEE waste (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Buy recyclable products.
