Recycling Articles : Simple Ways To Reduce Your Rubbish

    Back To Recycling Articles Index

With the introduction by many local councils of electronic tagging as means of knowing what you are throwing into your wheelie bin and the introduction of pay as you throw schemes and fines for excessive amounts of rubbish, plus being fined for putting out excess rubbish on collection day it is now more important than ever that we cut down on the amount of rubbish we are throwing away each week.

However there are many simple ways in which you can reduce the amount of rubbish you do throw away and so avoid the imposition of fines. Here are just some ways and ideas to do exactly that, there are many other good reasons why we should recycle and here are some of them.

By recycling we are using far less energy and putting much less pollution into the environment than if we use raw materials.

Recycling vastly reduces the amount of rubbish that we put into landfills, which are currently reaching their limit. This also reduces the amount of gases we are putting underground and lessening the chance of leakage into the environment which lowers the greenhouse effect.

The biggest way we can make changes is by not producing the waste in the first place, this means reducing. This can easily be achieved in so many different small ways, when you buy your goods take a look for the ones with the least packaging around them.

Whenever possible reuse shopping bags at the supermarket instead of buying new ones, the majority of larger supermarkets now give you the choice of buying stronger reusable ones also avoid purchasing any type of disposable product such as nappies, paper plates and cups, razors and face wipes.

Also take into account those goods and products which can be reused and reuse wherever possible instead of throwing them in the trash. If you still have your milk in bottles then make sure you rinse and return them, give any goods you have and don’t want to charity shops instead of bagging them and throwing them away, your local dentist or doctors surgery will love your old magazines. You can reuse glass jars to store many different types of items in, where possible buy re fill inkjet cartridges for your printer and donate any furniture you want to get rid of when you buy new.

Any glass containers that you have can be recycled providing of course you wash them and remove the tops, cans can also be washed and have their labels removed before crushing them. Paper can either be recycled or shredded and used for bedding for your small pets. Your garden waste makes excellent compost and councils are now offering compost bins by which you can make your own at home.

Besides the bins offered by the council there are also many recycling sites, here you can take everything which you can recycle yourself and put it in the correct receptacles provided.
